History
Is now an Irish Government compound but was once the British seat. The Dublin Castle has transformed into several different roles over the years. Originally built as a fort it was then transformed into a royal residence where the Viceroy of Ireland lived. The Chief Secretary had his offices there as well. It is used for hosting State visits and other informal foreign engagements. Roughly, every 10 years, it is host to the European Presidency.
