Temple Bar Area At A Glance

With its many cobbled streets, the Temple Bar area of Dublin is one of the only areas that has maintained its old world feel. The town, once popular in the 1600 and 1700s began to lessen in favor in the 1800s and felt the effects of urban decay in the 20th century. In the early 1990s, the town was brought back to life as artisans and small shops moved into and revived the area.

Today, Temple Bar is one of the cultural centers of the country of Ireland. The Irish Photography Centre, the Ark Children’s Cultural Centre and the Irish Film Archive all call Temple Bar home. Temple Bar also houses the Irish Stock Exchange and the Central Bank of Ireland. Every Saturday visitors and locals alike flock to Cow’s Lane Market for a glimpse at the current fashions.

During the day, visit Meeting House Square and catch the local happenings. You’re bound to get hungry walking around the city so try one of the many restaurants in the area for a midday meal. Fitzsimons, Buskers, Afsana, Botticelli and Brunos all serve up excellent fare. After your meal, head back to the hotel for a shower and change and get ready to roam back into the city centre.

Tourists to Temple Bar will see the area virtually spring to life at night. With its numerous night clubs, many catering to tourists, the area becomes a hotbed of activity after the sun goes down. While in town, be sure to visit the Turk’s Head, the Temple Bar, the Quays Bar, the Foggy Dew or The Porterhouse; all popular pubs, great for grabbing a pint or two.

Find accommodation in Temple Bar is easy as can be. Several hotels in the area offer comfortable, pleasant stays.
